Statement: Art/ not art is an investigative educational art group, which was formed simultaneously in Cork and Glasgow in 1999.

It has been involved in numerous exhibitions and events in Ireland, Scotland, Italy, Holland and Germany. Its most recent projects include being co-curators of the Cork Caucus project. Other events include invitations by Rraum 02 as part of Manifesta 4 and in Pavia, Italy as part of Circo Fragile.

In 2003 it began it’s “portables” project. “portables” is a mobile art unit conceived to include many disparate artistic disciplines, which can be forwarded to and unfolded in any location to display its contents. All participants are involved in the design of each unit and all its constituent parts. To date these include a poet, composer, a writer/theorist, knitwear designer, mathematician and a number of artists working in different media.

In 2002, it began ‘Art Bank’ an on-going project; an artist-led bartering organisation that deals with the sale, re-use and archiving of various art forms.

Art / not art continues to curate exhibitions and through its Non Academy program, organise lectures, screenings reading groups and to carry on dialogues expanding notions of creativity.
